Stephen Goodenough Photographer
PO Box 36 412
2/16 Bernard Street
Stephen’s love of photography was fostered by his Father who enjoyed photography enough to build a darkroom in a shed in their backyard, then again while studying Graphic Design at Christchurch Polytech.
Stephen’s eye for detail behind the camera and skill in the darkroom (yes – the ‘pre digital’ era) made him a sought after photographer.
Stephen has over thirty years in the photographic industry and won numerous national awards including New Zealand Photographer of the Year. Deciding to go freelance in the late 1990′s, Stephen settled both family and business into a beautifully renovated 1930′s Christchurch central city building. A dream location until the February 2011 quake left it lingering in the CBD Red Zone. Since February 2011 Stephen has relocated to another studio close to the city centre.
Stephen enjoys covering a variety of assignments but fashion has always shone through, and works with some icons of the fashion industry (Untouched World, Merinomink, Kimberleys, Barbara Lee, Caroline Moore), Stephen is regularly moving around the country shooting clothing catalogues both in the studio and on location. He also works with Advertising Agencies, Magazines, and designers – Home NZ, Urbis, KiaOra (Air NZ), Destinasians (Jakarta), Mercedes & Delicious (Australia).
He is a qualified Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photographers Association (NZIPP). Knowing many of the top photographers throughout the country and working closely with magazines, Stephen is often asked to recommend makeup artists and assistants to other photographers visiting the south island.
